Pre-Conference Workshops Hosted by Editors Toronto on Friday, June 16, 2023

To gear up for the 2023 Editors Canada Conference: Editors In Real Life, Editors Toronto is hosting three in-person workshops on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Tecumseh Auditorium, 55 Gould Street, Toronto.

These workshops are two-hour interactive sessions where you’ll get to participate in hands-on activities and receive guidance from subject-matter experts who are established in the industry. This is also a chance to meet and network with other people who share your interests.

About the workshops

What important communication tools need a set of fresh eyes and expertise from editors in this online-focused world? We invited Christina Vasilevski, senior content designer at Scotiabank and long-time member of Editors Canada, to present “Transferring Editorial Skills to Websites and Apps: Content Design Principles for Editors.” Learn from Christina how to apply your day-to-day editorial skills within the world of tech.

Toronto is the hub for many of Canada’s big publishing houses and is full of freelancing opportunities. In “Résumés for Editors: How to Look Your Best When Job- or Client-Hunting,” Ruth E. Thaler-Carter lends her years of expertise to help aspiring editors seeking employment. Ruth will provide tips and advice on how to craft an effective résumé to get your editing career off the ground or to continue bringing in business.

For fiction editors, Amy J. Schneider’s workshop, “Talking Points: Copy Editing Dialogue in Fiction,” will help you polish your dialogue-writing craft. As the author of the recently published book, The Chicago Guide to Copyediting Fiction, she will share her insights on how to maintain character voice and retain reader engagement.

Spots are limited, so register now! If the workshop is full and you would like to be added to the waiting list, please contact us at [email protected].

These workshops are in-person events and will NOT be recorded.
