Everyone has an opinion but not everyone knows how to get it down on paper in a clear and powerful way. Journalism professor and former Globe and Mail editor and columnist Ann Rauhala addresses the challenges of shaping opinion writing. The discussion topics include using structure to make your point of view more persuasive and building momentum in your argument.
About the speaker:
Ann Rauhala is a professor at the Ryerson School of Journalism. A Ryerson grad herself, she came back to teach after a 17-year career as an editor, columnist, and correspondent for Globe and Mail and CBC television. She teaches writing and editing to undergrad and grad students. She holds a BA and an MA in English from the University of Toronto.
Ann has a long-standing interest in mindfulness, with her recent research investigating whether meditation is a relevant practice for journalists. Her previous research focused on diversity and inclusion in Canada’s newsrooms.
She is the editor of and a contributor to The Lucky Ones, an anthology about international adoption published by ECW Press.
