I discovered Wunderland Gallery and Espresso Bar, a delightful indie café in the Beaches, while looking for a place to relax and write. Besides offering excellent coffee—including regular drip, espresso, lattes, cappuccinos, and Americanos made from fresh and organic locally roasted beans—Wunderland Café provides savoury and sweet eats, homemade soups and salads, and homemade muffins (average $3).
The café is nestled within a large post-Edwardian house, set back from the street, in the heart of the Beaches. The atmosphere inside is rustic and personal with a touch of class. Amid the dark, roughly hewn wood accents and beams, art by local artists hangs on the high-ceilinged walls, adding to the café’s bohemian look. All sorts of interesting people linger in comfort on the couch and at the solid wood tables, visiting and doing business. The café offers a great view of eclectic Queen Street, and a mix of pleasant music to work by. Wunderland Café also hosts live music some Sundays and evening literary events with its writer-in-residence. The staff is very welcoming and friendly.
