Video: Watch the panel discussion on developing content with subject-matter experts at our May meeting

At the May 2016 meeting of Editors Canada’s Toronto branch, three editors in different industries—education, engineering, and accounting—shared their personal stories of not only analyzing, but also developing content. Dimitra Chronopoulos, Andrea Civichino, and Dani Pacey spoke about working closely with non-editors to build brands, meet business goals, and put ideas into words.

Dimitra Chronopoulos enjoys working with others to create value and beauty in objects or experiences. As a freelance editor, she contributes to the production of everything from textbooks and teaching plans to websites and novels. Her clients include museums, non-profit organizations, and fellow editors. As a volunteer teacher and program director at her church, she attempts to inform and inspire through actions as much as words.

Andrea Civichino (@andreacivichino) can sum up her editorial journey using one hashtag: #unlikeanyother. As the research editor / content strategist for one of the world’s largest national accounting bodies, Andrea spends her day catching the occasional dangling participle and creating content strategies for resources developed for professional accountants. Her passion is telling stories and her transition from editor-in-chief of national trade magazines to working in content strategy was a natural fit.

Dani Pacey is a developmental editor at heart, though her job title doesn’t show it. Having completed a Master’s degree in Science and Technology Studies at York University, she went on to work in editorial positions at Oxford University Press Canada for three years. In October 2015, she joined R.V. Anderson Associates Limited, an engineering firm, as a proposal writer and coordinator, where the developmental editing skills she honed in publishing help her coach subject-matter experts in writing persuasively.
